‘Lifetime recharge’— for phone battery, claims Kashmiri student | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR: KDNN Low battery life irking mobile users may soon be a thing of the past. Or so an engineering student from Srinagar claims. Idrees Ul Haq, studying Bachelor of Engineering Electronics and Commutation at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu, says people will be able to charge their mobile phones using solar energy, body heat and electro-mechanical energy.
Haq recently presented a research paper on the topic during the just concluded Jammu and Kashmir Science Congress held at Jammu University.
Haq, who hails from Srinagar’s Lal Bazar area, says that if the technology is implemented, people will need to charge their phones just once.
“I have been working on the concept of using solar power, body heat and mechanical energy to recharge cell phone batteries, which in itself is quite a new concept. Though research is going on in the United States, but not much work has been done here,” says Haq.
According to him, in this mechanism he has used solar strips for tapping solar energy while thermo electrical transducers are used for converting heat from human body into electrical signals. "Piezo electric material is used for utilizing mechanical energy," he adds.
He says the technology can play a pivotal role in curbing the energy crisis of world and the device has a flexibility to be applied on all electronic gadgets ranging from laptops to TVs to other electronic devices.
Idrees is confident that if he gets some sponsors, further research could be done. “According to my observation it can be done easily by using the basic concepts of science by making use of solar energy which is abundantly present all over earth, energy within human body, which is main component of human beings helping them to survive, and mechanical energy which is utilized while working on any type of cell phone,” he claims.
Elaborating, Haq says all for trapping solar energy; solar strips are used, for trapping heat of human body and changing it into electrical signals and then thermo-electric transducers are used and for utilizing mechanical energy and piezo-electric material is used which can deliver 5-5 V (DC) to the internal battery of cell phone.
