Wildlife Dept has one vehicle for rescue ops in North Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR: Nov. 2: As wild animals have killed at least six people and injured 45 this year in several areas of North Kashmir, the Wildlife department has just one vehicle for rescue operation.
Officials said that those killed in the attacks by wild animals include two persons from Kupwara district and four from Baramulla district.
According to Wildlife Warden North Kashmir, Mohammad Maqbool Baba, in 206 cases, officials captured the wild animals alive and released them later deep inside forests.
“Five control rooms have also been set up in north Kashmir where our men work round the clock to monitor the situation,” Baba said.
He said authorities have also released 23 lakh rupees as relief to the victims and their families.
“Most of the attacks were carried out by bears,” he said.
Baba said rapid urbanization and deforestation was forcing wild animals to venture into populations and carry out attacks on human beings.
However, he further revealed that the Wildlife department had “just one vehicle at its disposal for rescue operations in north Kashmir.”
The number of incidents could have been lesser had we had another vehicle, he said.
