Celebration of World Ecology Day at MIER | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 2: MIER college of Education celebrated World Ecology Day by organising a visit to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKAUST). 31 students of environment unit along with Monika Bajaj, incharge of environment unit visited the composting plant. The students were taken on a round to the plant and acquainted with the functioning of the plant. Their queries were also addressed. A lecture on steps and benefits of composting was also delivered to them by Meenakshi Gupta & Neetu, assistant professors, Deptt. of Agronomy, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology, main campus, Chattha, Jammu. HoD, Khushu welcomed the visitors and said that such practices should be conducted practically so that we can contribute our mite towards saving our ecology and environment. He further informed that organic fertilizers are good for crops. By doing composting and vermi-composting, we can minimize the kitchen waste and utilize it for agricultural purposes. Renu Gupta, director MIER/ principal, MIER College of Education appreciated the efforts of the environment unit which is initiating a practical approach towards conservation of our crumbling ecology. She hoped that with this practical experience the unit will be able to set up a composting unit in the college also in the near future. She said that such type of activities will definitely go a long way in bringing an attitude change among the students.
