BA expresses solidarity with Omar not JK! | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 2: The Belgium Association for Solidarity with Jammu and Kashmir in its recent report has lauded State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for "his visionary leadership" and prompts response to the demands of people and paying attention to their basic needs. The report makes a mention of State Accountability Commission, appointment of Information Commissioner under RTI Act, the much hyped Public Service Guarantee Act. Omar has also been praised for his efforts in the education sector, creation of new degree colleges and polytechnics. Activation of Vigilance Organizations has also won Omar a bit of appreciation. However, on ground nothing has moved. Jammu Kashmir may have achieved a lot in health sector but Srinagar continues to be the third dirtiest city of the country. The face of Jammu Kashmir as Omar calls Srinagar has the distinction of being the only place on earth where dogs are going to outnumber humans in the coming years. As far as activation of Vigilance Organizations is concerned, it has been trapping revenue clerks, Patwaries and Girdawaras. The big sharks have never been hooked for obvious reasons. The newly established degree colleges operate in one or two rooms and lack proper faculty and infrastructure. The new polytechnics and ITIs have a similar story to tell. Omar happens to be the Chief Minister of the second most corrupt state of India. He has pledged to fight corruption tooth and nail but is yet to come clean in the killing of his worker Haji Yusuf who died in the custody of Crime Branch after having a row with him at his residence over an alleged money deal. Omar deserves appreciation for holding Panchayat elections. He has also ensured their empowerment but reports from ground are disgusting. A village level helper defies the Panches and the Sarpanches. |
