| Speaker distributes cheques, inaugurates link road in Khour Block | | | JAMMU, Jan 6 Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand has said that government is making all out efforts to ensure better basic facilities to the people of the state especially in border and rural areas. He said that Govt. headed by Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has accorded priority to uplift the living conditions of poor and downtrodden of the society and adequate measures have been initiated in this regard. Addressing a largely attended public meeting at Khour today. Mr. Tara Chand said that the government has formulated a comprehensive watershed programme for the development of Akhnoor area. Under the programme Rs.100 crore would be spent for providing various basic facilities to the people of the area, he added. The Speaker said that government has embarked upon a comprehensive infrastructure development programme for ensuring road connectivity, education, health care and other basic amenities in the remotest corners of the state to make them developed and prosperous. The Speaker later distributed cheques worth Rs. 6.50 lakh among the beneficiary under widow pension scheme, old age pension scheme, physically handicapped and national family welfare schemes. These cheques were distributed by the social welfare department for the deserving people of the area. The speaker also assured the people that their demand regarding free ration to the border migrants for six months would be seriously put up before government. Earlier the Speaker inaugurated the road links of 3.5 kms at Malla, Khour and also inaugurated the School building. Speaking on the occasion Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma said that present government is committed to the overall development of all areas including rural and border areas of the state. Mr. Jugal also referred the enforcement of recently enacted Roshni Scheme and said the scheme would provide ownership rights to the people who were not conferred these rights so far. Among others, MLA Akhnoor, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, Director Rural Development Mr. G. R.
