SRINAGAR, Nov 3: Aided by an unbeaten century by opener DS Jadhav (135 runs), Assam was comfortably placed at 297 for 4 at stumps on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match against hosts Jammu and Kashmir at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, here today.
Earlier, J&K skipper Parvez Rasool won the toss and put Assam into bat.
Assam began disastrously as speedster Abid Nabi drew the first blood by trapping opener P Aziz LBW in the fifth over of the match when the score was 14 runs. Aziz scored only seven runs.
J&K got the second success when the score read only 57 runs. This time, R Dayal claimed the wicket of C Rawat (20 runs) in the 22nd over who was caught by Shashi Kumar. Raman Dutta claimed the third wicket of S A Roy (26 runs) in the 30th over to place J&K in a comfortable position at 95 for 3.
However, Opener D S Jadhav and new batsman Tarjinder Singh studied the innings and contributed 96 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. However, R Dutta broke this partnership by removing Tarjinder in 64th over of the day when the score was 191 runs. Tarjinder scored 44 runs. Opener Jadhav played brilliantly and he was ably supported by number six batsman G Sharma and and made a partnership of 106 runs for the fifth wicket. Jadhav was unbeaten on 135 runs while his partner G Sharma was on 46 when the stumps were drawn today. For J&K, Raman Dutta scalped 2 wickets, while Abid Nabi and Ram Dayal took one wicket each.
Adil Rishi, R Dayal and MK Dogra from J&K made the first class debut in this match.
