New recruitment policy: State Govt caught in catch-22 situation
11/3/2011 9:51:00 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 3:The National Conference led coalition government has been caught in a catch-22 situation over the issue of fresh recruitment policy in the state.
Within days after issuing the order the state government authorities are becoming the target of students’ ire who are largely unhappy with the way the terms and conditions of the state government jobs, to be notified after November 1, 2011 have been defined.
The state government too had done little enough to win the confidence and sympathy of the unemployed youth.
Rather the government only manages to scrub salt on the wounds of the hurt student community by announcing drastic cut in the salaries after their recruitment post November 1.
The confusing signals sent out by the state government with regard to its intent over recruiting large number of class IV employees and re-advertising the posts for the benefit of those who were left out in the previous round of screening has left the aspiring candidates dumbfounded.
We do not know whether the state government has reduced the salary to discourage or encourage the aspirants of the government job, large number of students agitating outside the GGM Science College said.
Upfront response of the students’ community and unemployed youth is also causing lot of heart burn within the state government. In the absence of political leadership in the state the lower rung authorities have exactly no idea as to how to deal with the situation. Neither the National Conference nor the leaders of the Congress party have till now come out to support the freshly drafted recruitment rules for the fixed salary mode.
On the other hand the agitating students are gradually gathering momentum with assistance from social and political groups to put pressure on the state government to apply its mind over the policy afresh and suggest recommendations to be made to ensure the aggrieved students do not turn tables against the state government, who was otherwise inclined towards winning the hearts and minds of the unemployed youth by way of going for fast track recruitment.
