CIFA demands implementation of Dr M S Swaminathan committee report

JAMMU, November 3 : Consortium of Indian Farmers Association (CIFA) has demanded immediate implementation of Dr M S Swaminathan committee report on Agriculture to provide remunerative prices to the farmers for" agriculture produce, separate budget Oil agriculture on the pattern of railway budget and providing seeds, fertilizers and other agriculture inputs to the farming community on subsidized rates for the overall socio economic development of the farmers.
This demand was at the meeting of J&K unit of CIFA under the chairmanship of All India President CIFA Satnam Singh Behru and Former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh National Advisor CIFA at Press CIFA at press club Jammu where progressive farmers from different parts of the state participated under CIFA banner.
Other demands highlighted during the meeting were patenting of Basmati Rice of R.S Pura, Rajmash of Bhaderwah, Saffron of Kashmir, Kishtwar, Apricot of Ladakh, black Mushroom of J&K and Anardana Produced in Jammu region so the growers benefit optimally.
Briefing the media after the meeting held preparatory to 8th Farmer's conference of CIFA being held in November 19 to November 22 at New Delhi where CIFA charter of demands will be highlighted .
The main demands include separate Union Agriculture Budget covering all connected Ministries , commission of Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP) to be made autonomous to fix Minimum support Price (MSP) based on price index , empowerment of Panchayati raj in agriculture planning and implementation and allocate resource directly and MGNERGA to be linked to agriculture production activity.
All India CIFA President Satnam Singh said that agriculture and allied sector which are the back bone of country economy have remained neglected and noteworthy have been taken by the successive government to make this sector a profitable venture for the 70 percent farmers.
