Desperate attempt to hoodwink and mislead Congress | Farooq's Advice To Kamaal Meaningless | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 3: NC president and Union Minister for Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah's today's statement that Mustafa Kamaal "has been advised to exercise restraint and follow the party policy line on all issues, particularly those pertaining to the policies of the coalition government, relationship with the Congress party, AFSPA and the role of the Army" is as meaningless as it is misleading. It appears to be a desperate attempt on his part to hoodwink the Congress and deflect its attention from the real issue and ensure that his son Omar Abdullah rules the roost for a full term of six years. The real issue is that Kamaal has as the NC general secretary and its chief spokesperson unleashed a relentless vilification campaign against the Congress, the JKPCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and New Delhi. Farooq Abdullah, who heads and controls the NC and enjoys veto power in the party, just can't fool the Congress and the people by dissociating himself from what Kamaal has been saying, particularly since October 25, when the terrorists struck across the Valley in a big way and made their presence felt. For, Kamaal is not an ordinary NC man. He is his younger brother and the party's additional general secretary and chief spokesperson. And, don't forget that it was none other then Farooq Abdullah himself who honoured his brother by offering him the two most crucial positions of additional general secretary and chief spokesperson knowing it full well that Kamaal is by nature and by conviction anti-Congress and anti-India. Also, don't forget that Farooq Abdullah had issued a similar statement some four months ago when Kamaal denounced New Delhi and the Congress to counter the arguments senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Makhan Lal Fotedar advanced to defend Nehru and put things in perspective as far as the issue of the state's accession to India was concerned. That Farooq Abdullah appointed Kamaal as additional general secretary and chief spokesperson of the NC knowing full well his anti-Congress and anti-India credentials should clinch the whole issue and establish that he doesn't mean what he says and that he is indulging in an unholy politics to save his "failed" son and retain the position he right now holds in the Union Council of Ministers. That Farooq Abdullah has not removed Kamaal from the positions that he holds today or that he has not expelled him from the party on the ground that he has been indulging in anti-party activities by airing anti-Congress, anti-Army and anti-Delhi views should further establish that Farooq Abdullah doesn't really believes in what he has sought to convey through his today's politically motivated statement. The Congress leadership is not that fool. It knows everything and understands the meaning of what Farooq Abdullah said today. Farooq Abdullah should realize this. If he really means what he said today, then he has no other option left but to throw Kamaal out of the party. This is the minimum that is expected of him to do. |
