No more controversy on AFSPA now: Prof Soz | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 4 : State Congress president and former Union Minister Prof Saifuddin Soz Friday said that there should be no controversy over the revocation of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) now, as ‘principle of consultation has been accepted all around.’ Addressing a workers meeting at Khimber here, he said, “My position on this question is clear that it is a temporary measure that was devised to fight terrorism. Now it can be repealed through consensus, among at least, the main stakeholders. In the meantime this question is coming up before J&K Unified Command and State Cabinet as a regular item on agenda.” He also welcomed Pakistan’s gesture of granting Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India. “It shows Pakistan’s latest perception that friendship with India is in its best interests for over all development and security,” he said. He assured the workers that the demands of the area highlighted through a memorandum before him would be fulfilled. Soz was accompanied by Mohammad Muzaffar Parray senior vice president, Bashir Ahmad Magrey vice president, Khem Lata Wakhloo general secretary, Abdul Gani Khan district president, Shameema Raina vice president Mahila Congress, Master Mohammad Maaqbool, Shamima Sopori, Ms Jawahira and others.
