Children group of ‘Kud Dance’ left for National festival of Traditional Arts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu 4th November, 2011The first ever children’s traditional dance ‘Kud’ group left today for ‘BAL SANGAM -2011’ (National Festival of Traditional Performing arts by Children) being organized by National School of Drama, New Delhi. The festival is being held at Mandi House, New Delhi from 5th to 14th November, 2011. Giving details about this Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur informed here today that this is a historic occasion for the traditional performing arts of Jammu region when the first ever team of younger generation of artists is going to feature in on of the most prestigious National Festival of Traditional Performing Arts.. Unfortunately we hardly find children practicing the traditional forms and this is the first ever children group which on the advice of Balwant Thakur took the initiative to learn Kud Dance from their traditional masters and acquired that much excellence and expertise which made them to reach to the National level. This group of children is prepared and trained by Hari Saran Cultural Centre, Bakkal of Reasi District (J&K) which has taken the initiative to train the children in traditional performing arts on regular basis. Hari Saran Cultural Centre, Bakkal was created by Krishan Singh in the year 2000 in the name of legendary artist and cultural figure Hari Saran who brought the traditional arts of the area to the National limelight during the pre and post-India Independence period. The Centre has been very active in the preservation and promotion of the traditional performing arts of the region. The group runs regular training programmes for children in the traditional performing arts like ‘Bhakh’ ‘Geetru’ ‘Shinjh’ ‘Masade’ ‘Gorian’ ‘Chann’ and has a rich repertoire of almost all the major performing art forms of the hills of Jammu. The Centre has performed in various National Folk Dance Festivals held all over India including Republic Day Celebrations, New Delhi. Many artists of the Hari Saran Cultural Centre have been awarded National Scholarships to learn and enrich the traditional performances of the Hills of Jammu. The young artists who are participating the ‘Bal Sangam’ include Omkar Sigh, Kunj Lal, Gautam Sharma, Romesh Chand, sanjay Kumar, Shambu Ram, Sunil Kumar, Sanjay Singh, Akashay Kumar, Om Prakash, Puran Chand, Suraj Ram, Meshu Ram, Pritam Chand and Shaftan Singh. Ashok Thakur is the coordinator of the group and Krishan Singh is the group leader.
