Inter-division judo-a formality | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 04: The holding of annual state level inter-division competition by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) turned out to be a formality with just a few girl participants turned up from Kashmir Division thus making mockery of the competition. Only three out of a total of seven weights could be decided in under-14 age group while those from Jammu were declared winner uncontested in other two categories of under-17 and under-19. The height of non-seriousness on part of those from Kashmir was that the participants turned up the venue, Gymnasium Hall of University of Jammu, at 12.30 pm instead of given time of 10 am for weighting. Furthermore, one of the young girl participant from Kashmir was unwilling to compete, but her accompanying mother made unsuccessful attempts to push her to the mats to complete the formality. In another similar case, the participant in under-14 category had to compete by getting sports kit from Jammu girl. However, attempts to contact the team incharge from Kashmir Division, Manjit Singh, turned out to be a futile exercise as the latter preferred to stay away during the competition. When asked about reasons for poor participation, incharge girls’ team, Sabina said that there was examination time in Kashmir. Meanwhile, the organizers, released the results to the press, including those uncontested weights. The Results: GIRLS: Under-14 yr: Below 36 kg: Aditi Sharma, Jammu, Ist and Misba-un-Nisa, Kashmir, 2nd. Below 46 kg: Arpita Puri, Jammu, Ist and Munazah Gazi, 2nd . Below 44 kg: Kabra Altaf, Kashmir, Ist and Rashika Wali, Jammu, 2nd.
