DHS discusses sex ratio in Kishtwar | Expresses concern over free flow of abortion drugs | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KISHTWAR, Nov 4:District Health Society Kishtwar under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Hussain Malik held meeting of District Advisory Committee Kishtwar in which the falling sex ratio has been discussed. In a meeting which was attended by Chief Medical Officer Kishtwar, a stress was laid down on implementation of J&K Pre Conception and Pre Natal Sex selection/Determination (Prohibition & Registration) Act 2002. CMO Kishtwar Dr. Ajay Gupta gave a detailed account of the sex ratio in Kishtwar District, which is 938 females against 1000 males. CMO informed that two Ultrasound clinics in Kishtwar District are registered under PC and PNDT Act and stress was laid on surprise visit to these clinics. The concern pertaining to readily availability of drugs in the market which are used for abortions and it was decided that a meeting of Chemists and Drug Inspector will be called so that the chemists will be directed not to sell these drugs without prescription. It was also decided that chemists will also be directed to keep proper record of drugs available at the shop of chemists. Since the Ultrasound clinic of District Hospital Kishtwar is not registered under PC & PNDT Act, a proposal pertaining to registration of the same was also floated before the Advisory Committee and was accordingly approved. The others who attended the meeting including Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kishtwar, Sr. Gynaecologist, Sr. Paediatrician, representative of District Information Officer Kishtwar, Sanjeev Parihar President Social Reforms and Charitable Organization and eminent lawyer of Kishtwar Kuldeep Sharma.
