JAMMU, Nov 4: Over 50 members of a marriage party were taken ill after taking food at one of the prestigious hotels here few days back.
On October 30 S K Gadoo solemnized the marriage of his daughter and the parents of the bride had hosted a party for the in-laws of their daughter two days after the marriage ceremony . And soon after the guests reached their nations they were taken ill due to food poisoning, sources said.
Sources said some of the guests had come from abroad and soon after reaching Delhi they fell ill while those from Jammu are bed ridden here for last three days. Sources said both bride and bridegroom who were on their way to abroad were taken ill at Delhi and have been hospitalized.
The host who lodged a complaint with the manager of hotel said that the management expressed its regret but mere apology will not serve the purpose as his position was made awkward by the management before the important guests among them some had come from abroad to participate in the marriage ceremony of his daughter.
The host S K Gadoo after hearing the news of his guests were taken to ill at Delhi immediately rushed their to look after his daughter, son in law and their parents. He said that he will file a case in consumer court against the hotel and its management as the negligence and the irresponsibility of the staff has hurt and damaged his reputation.
Holding the authorities also responsible for the problem sources said that tithe Health and sanitation wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation under whose jurisdiction the hotel falls has failed to maintain a check on the preparations in the hotels and dhabas. The civic body has also failed to ascertain whether the proper quality food is served in these hotels or not and whether the hoteliers observe the hygienic procedures or not.
Taking serious exception the way he was cheated by the management and staff of the hotel, Gadoo said that whatever has happened with him should not be repeated with others tomorrow. The Government machinery should swing into action and take appropriate action against such hoteliers who fail to maintain hygienic norms.
``I think we were served the stale food in the hotel otherwise every one should have not taken to ill after eating the food in hotel'', said a guest of Mr Gadoo. He wanted that the authorities to maintain a proper check on the preparations and menu in the hotels so that no compromise is made on quality of food items in future.
