Faulty or doctored J&K Bank ATMs frustrate clients | Strategy to ensure minimum withdrawals? | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 4: Hundreds of its customers were shocked today when dozens of ATM's installed by the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd in the city were either out of order or had been stuffed with only currency notes of Rupees 100 denomination that made withdrawals of more than a few hundred impossible as the cash delivery slots in these machines are too narrow to deliver such thick packets consisting of only Rupees 100 notes. Frustrated customers ran from one ATM location to another in Hyderpora, Barzalla, Sant Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Nawa Bazar, Zaina Kadal, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta and other localities of Srinagar city as they needed cash for Eid shopping. Most of these frustrated customers said they had tried their luck at more than one machine in the city but had returned cashless with the ATM screens either flashing 'out of order' or 'insufficient cash' or 'cannot process your request' messages. Serious doubts have started being expressed by the customers of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank whether the 'faults' were genuine or had been 'doctored' to ensure that customers do not withdraw heavy sums of money from their accounts. The Jammu and Kashmir Bank has been issuing press releases on every festival claiming delivery of tens of crores of Rupees to its customers through the Bank's ATMs. Hardly do the higher ups of the Bank ever bother to admit that the customers are being put to avoidable hardships because of faulty ATM's or because of a well thought out strategy to ensure that the they are unable to withdraw heavy sums of money on festive occasions. |
