JAMMU, Nov 4: Kashmiri Pandits have demanded a high level probe into mysterious fire that broke into the Chakrewshwar shrine in down town Srinagar on October 29 afternoon in which one building housing hawan kund gutted completely.
Apprehending a sabotage the KP organizations have urged the Government to order an inquiry into the matter and punish the guilty under law.
Expressing their concern over the mysterious fire in one of the buildings of the holy shrine of Chakreshwar which is known as presiding deity of Srinagar where Shri Yantra is engraved on a rock from times immemorial, the Kashmiri Pandits question that how the fire engulfed the shrine which is guarded by the security forces.
The Pandits who have estimated the loss suffered in the fire as 12 lakh apprehend a sabotage and handi work of the land mafia who are eyeing the shrines land in valley. The Chakreshwar Devi Angan Asthapan Committee which manages the shrine said that the Government is fully aware about the land grabbing issue at shrine and till date it has failed to take action against the culprits.
According to sources the land mafia active in Kashmir which is eyeing the hill lock belonging to holy shrine has some time back engaged an excavator and dozer to plain the land of hill lock for commercial plots. This was strongly resisted by the Sansthan and other KP organizations who have demanded a stern action against the land mafia in Valley hell bent to grab the shrines land, sources added.
Sources said that the involvement of the land mafia in setting the shrine ablaze can't be ruled out as a group among them had already warned the people who had protested against encroaching the land of hill lock of dire consequences.
The Chakreshwar shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Kashmir which dates back to immersion of ashes of Sati by Lord Shiva at different places in the universe and as per the hindu mythology the Lord Shiva had also immersed ashes at this place in Satisar where later a hill lock was formed in the form of Hari Parbat hill which afterwards became the abode of Godess Shakti.
On this hill lock Shree Yantra is engraved on a big rock covered by Sindoor. And it is said that the name of Srinagar city has been derived from this Shri yantra. The shrine is of great reverence for Kashmiri Hindus from times immemorial and thousands of devotees used to visit there on the occasion of religious festivals to pay their obeisance.
The Kashmiri Pandits have also criticized the Government alleging that its rigidity on formation of a Board for protection of Shrines and temples of Hindus in Valley can be one of the cause of these incidents. Once an accountable Board is in place it can effectively deal with encroachers and land grabbers ensuring the protection of hindu religious places in Valley, Mahesh Kumar a social activist from Kashmir.
Mahesh said that not only Chakreshwar shrine but scores of Hindu shrines in Valley including Jawala Ji Khrew, Jeewan Sahib Ladhoo, Mangleshwar shrine Manghama, Pulwama, Bab Dharam Dass Srinagar and other shrines are facing the threat of land grabbers.
