Corruption can’t be stopped by force: IGP Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 5: Inspector General Police Kashmir Range, S M Sahai Saturday said that corruption can’t be stopped by force and urged the society to play a responsible role to eradicate the menace. “Why our society isn’t honest? Our Supreme Court, High Court, Lokpal bill and police can make laws but it alone can’t eradicate the corruption,” Sahai said at the concluding function of Vigilance Organization at Srinagar Airport. He said that there was a feeling that police is most corrupt. “You can see my traffic police personnel taking Rs 100. He is being singled out not the engineer who embezzles a crore while making a bridge. Nobody talks about Common Wealth scam,” Sahai added. Quoting an example where from corruption starts, the IGP said, “At the time of qualifying IPS, I didn’t take any coaching. Today I’m surprised to see advertisements for coaching to 9th and 10th standard students. If our education institutions can’t give proper education to our children, then level of corruption starts from there.” On increasing rate of crime in Kashmir, the IGP said, “There is no douct that crime has increased in the last 20-years. Police can’t do anything alone to stop it society has to play a responsible role to stop it.” However, he said that still crime rate was less in Kashmir, ‘but we have to remain alert.’
