| Seva Dal organizes Aids Awareness camp | | | JAMMU | JAN 6 The J&K congress Seva Dal organized an Aids/HIV prevention and control awareness camp in connection with celebration of its 121st foundation day. To commemorate this occasion, Seva Dal is observing week long “Dal Divas”, as per the announcement made by the chairman Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Seva Dal Balvinder Singh at a function organized at General Bus Stand here today. On this occasion he was the chief guest whereas Dr. M.A Wani Director AIDS’s prevention and control J&K was the guest of honor. They also addressed the huge gathering and distributed written material related to spread and prevention of the fatal disease along with condoms. While giving a detailed lecture on AIDS he said Acquired immune deficiency syndrome weakens the immune system of the body drastically and as a result of it human body becomes unable to fight off infections known as “opportunistic infection”, and other such ailments that take advantage of weakened immune system. “Since its outbreak, AIDS has killed more the 25 million people world wide, including more than 500,000 Americans. AIDS has replaced “Tuberculosis” as the world deadliest infection disease among adults and is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. Fifteen million children have been orphaned by epidemic” he said. While addressing Mr. Rajesh Gupta Chairman Congress Seva Dal District Jammu urban said, if you are sexually active protect yourself against HIV by practicing safer sex. Whenever you have a sex use condom or “dental dam” (a square of latex recommended for use during oral-genital and oral–anal sex). When used properly and consistently. “Condoms are extremely effective but remember use only latex condoms (or dental dam) whereas lambskin products provide little protection against HIV.” said Gupta.
