NSF protests against petrol price hike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu: Nov 5: Large number of activist’s of National Secular Forum Jourian unit led by district vice-President Sunil Sharma on Sunday held a NSF protest against the failure of the Central UPA-Government to control the rising prices of petrol. The workers raised slogans against PM Manmohan Singh, and UPA Chairperson and President Congress Sonia Gandhi. Addressing the gathering, Sharma demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as his government has failed to control the rising prices in the country. He said Central Government is watching the situation as a mute spectator taking no effective steps to control the rising prices of Petrol. Sharma also said that the day is not far away when we will get petrol for Rs 150 a litre, adding that public cannot be befooled any more. He disclosed when UPA took over reign of power; the price of petrol was just Rs 40 per litre. A litre of petrol in Pakistan cost Rs 41.81 while in Sri Lanka it was Rs 50.30 and in Bangladesh it was Rs 44.80. In the United States a litre of petrol cost Rs 42.82, he said giving comparative figures of the cost of petrol. The UPA Government had never attempted this exercise although all the Oil Marketing Companies were in the public sector and the talk of under recoveries had no meaning. He further blamed the State Coalition Government that rations to include Atta, rice, sugar, kerosene oil is not available in the government depots and the weaker section is facing lot of problems. He said authority which fails to provide basic requirement of life have no locus stand to continue in power. He appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, M.P’s, M.L.A.s of the state to take stern action against the culprits. He said that the people who are coming under BPL are being ignored. Among those who were present in the protest included Anil Sharma, Vinod Sharma, Rahul Kumar, Vijay Kumar Rajesh Kumar and others.
