Issue alive, last word yet to be spoken: Cong
Rotational Chief Minister
11/5/2011 11:55:31 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Nov 5: In complete contrast to Abhishekh Manu Singhvi's 'full term' assurance to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Congress leaders close to 10-Janpath today reiterated that till the last word on the issue of rotational Chief Ministership is not said, it would remain as contentious an issue as it is presently.
"When i said last word is yet to be said, it leaves open space for speculation. So, I see no surprise in our spokesman Abhishekh Singhvi's or J&K Incharge Mohan Prakash's assurance to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. They have to adhere to party discipline and speak about rotational Chief Ministership issue only when 'appropriate time' comes," said a Congress stalwart in New Delhi, currently regarded as one of the closet friend of National Conference (NC) in AICC, while talking exclusively to Early Times. He sought anonymity, citing party discipline.
Calling Chief Minister Omar Abdullah honest, upright and sincere, he said that politics demands too much from an individual, especially in Jammu and Kashmir where governance is not as easy as it is in other parts of the country. "Omar has qualities which need no mention but then, you have to perform, take big political decisions, have people friendly approach and above all, make people part of our political as well as administrative initiatives," said the Congress leader.
Whosoever comes to Delhi, be it from Congress, BJP, JKNPP, PDP and even NC, the first complaint about the young Chief Minister pertains to his arrogant attitude and inability to tolerate dissent, said the leader who was one of the few supporters of Omar Abdullah, when New Delhi (read Congress) decided to handover reigns of power to National Conference (NC). He disclosed that even Congress General Secretary was surprised to see Congress, despite factionalism, unanimously talking about having its own Chief Minister for the next three years.
"We have come to a situation where there is no Soz or Azad group but a unanimous Congress demanding its share in Power for next three years. Both UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi are aware of this. So, we should better wait and till then, keep reiterating that Omar would continue to lead the alliance till the year 2012," disclosed the Congress leader.
About the recent statement of party's Minister in J&K, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, he said that discussing the issue of rotational Chief Minister doesn't fall in the domain of Taj and he should have not made any statement. The congress leader said that PHE minister has been conveyed in strong words that he should desist from reacting on such sensitive issues in future. "He should better concentrate on his ministry and leave the rotational CM issue to party high command," asserted the leader.
He clarified that NC-congress coalition would continue six years in any case. "Change of nomenclature at the top would not make any difference. Infact, it would help NC in correcting the wrongs which took place during the last three years. They have infact begun early by elevating Dr. Mustafa Kamaal to the crucial position in the party," said the Congress leader. He stressed that the only thing that Kamal should do is talk sense and ensure, it does not hurt the NC-Congress relationship.
Referring to recently announced possible activation of annual performance review of the state government, the top leader of Congress said that at the time of formation of coalition, both parties had agreed on reviewing performance of the state government annually, a measure which has not been implemented since the Omar-led government came to power in January 2009. "This review is being activated soon," asserted the leader while adding that it would be done, even if Congress takes over.
