JAMMU, Nov 6: The five-day long All India (Rs one lakh below 2000 rating) Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, organised by All J&K Chess Association, got underway at Luthra College premises, here today.
Opening two rounds were played on day of the national event with young, elder, top rank and beginners sharing the table to make headway for the next rounds.
About 100 players from 20 states of the country, including one from Nagaland, are taking part in this nine-round competition under the guidance of chief arbiter, international arbiter, Prenesh Yadav of Bangalore. He is being guided by deputy arbiter, Anil Kotwal.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by Association president, Atul Kumar and secretary, Baldev Raj by playing a game with a visiting International Master, Saptrishi Roy. Among others present were TS Chib, Rakesh Sadhotra and Vikramjeet Singh of Punjab Chess Association.
In his inaugural address, Atul thanked the management of Luthra College of Education, especially, Rajeev Luthra for extending a helping hand to the Association. This will be Association’s fifth national level event in Jammu in as many years, he added.
