J&K artist to represent India in Italian festival | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Nov 6: Internationally reputed artist hailing from J&K Suman Gupta has been invited by the Internal Committee of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art to participate in the 8th edition of the prestigious Florence biennial, scheduled to take place in Florence, Italy from December 3 to 11. Gupta will be representing India in this year Florence biennial. He will be exhibiting his two new art works both, untitled “done in ‘acrylic on canvas’ and mixed media and will be part of his installation. The Biennale is organized under the European Parliament recognition, the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic with the official endorsement of the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Tuscany, the Province and the City of Florence. Over 600 artists from more than 70 countries would showcase their art works at this year Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art.Suman Gupta established and contemporary painter is a leading artist of his generation from trouble-torn Jammu & Kashmir. His paintings are inspired by beauty and turbulence rampant in the region. His fecund use of broken strokes results into realistic expressions of pregnant silences and vulnerable loneliness. Suman portrays the struggles for peace by self and soul in area torn by voices and forms. He has received both critical and popular acclaim for his shows at large number of galleries and museums. He has had rare honor of being the first Indian painter to exhibit his work at UN’s Geneva centre in 2002.
