Major Som Nath Sharma remembered
Sham lauds role of security forces in bringing normalcy in State

Jammu, November 06- To pay tributes to Kashmir savior and first Param Vir Chakra winner martyr Major Som Nath Sharma on his death anniversary, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidi Sabha Jammu organized an impressive function at its headquarters, here today.
Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Recalling the supreme sacrifice of Major Som Nath Sharma, the Minister said that exemplary courage of this son of the soil is a golden example in the history of Indian Army and will remain source of inspiration for the generations to come. He has created a unique history, which the people of Jammu and Kashmir will never forget. He said that Major Sharma’s courage is a self speaking, who with the support of handful troop of jawans fought till his last breath and saved the Kashmir from the Pak raiders on November 3, 1947.
Maintaining that the State is, and shall always remain indebted to Major Som Dutt Sharma, Brigadier Rajinder Singh and several others who laid down their lives while saving the motherland, the Minister said “we cannot repay their debt and simply pray for peace to their noble souls in heaven”, said Mr. Sham.
Lauding the role of the Army in overall, and para-military forces who are fighting the proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir for the past over two decades, the Minister said we should also remember all those who have sacrificed their lives during the turmoil. These forces have done commendable job during the turmoil and helped tremendously in bringing the normalcy in the State, he maintained.
Responding to the demands of the gathering, Mr. Sham promised to explore possibilities to install the statue of Major Som Nath Sharma at the Jammu Airport on the pattern of Srinagar Airport to give honor to this valor soldier and to full-fill the aspirations of Jammu people.
Retired Majors General, Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, L.P.Sadhotra, Keshav Sharma, Shiv Kurmar Sharma & President Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha Jammu, Pt. Ved Parkash Sharma also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the life and contribution of the martyr.
A large number of ex-servicemen, people from different walks of life participated in the function and paid glowing tributes to Major Som Nath Sharma.
Later, the Minister also honored the father of young martyr lieutenant Sushil Kumar Khajuria who recently laid down his life in a militant encounter in Kashmir.
