Artist promised job by govt, alleges Haji's son | 'Mimicry' produced as evidence | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 6: Custodial death row of a National Conference worker cum political fixer who allegedly died at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's private residence in Srinagar on September 30, refuses to die down as both J&K government and the relatives of the deceased seem to be hell-bent to prove each other guilty. According to the relatives of the Sayed Yousuf, government has been desperately ascertaining the details of the bank accounts of the deceased and his relatives to prove that the deceased was a corrupt man who amassed wealth by resorting to unfair practices. However, sources maintain that nothing of the sorts came into the hands of the administration that could substantiate its stand. Sources told this correspondent that on scrutiny of bank accounts of the Sayed Yusuf's family members it was found that there were Rs. 11000 (eleven thousand) only in the account of Sayed Yusuf while as his widow Mst. Mansoora has 1,03000 (One Lac three thousand) only in her account. Relatives of the deceased alleged that government has been contemplating to utilize the services of a mimicry artist to belie the claims of some eyewitnesses that NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah was frequently talking to Sayed Yusuf on phone. They revealed that a mimicry artist namely Ajaz Ahmad of Chursoo Awantipora in South Kashmir has been approached by one of the senior ministers allegedly promising him a reward of hefty amount and Govt. Job for assuming the mimics of Dr. Farooq Abdullah in a satirical effect . According to them, Dr Abdullah, with the help of the coalition government in Jammu & Kashmir, was trying to "prove" that he had never talked to either Yousuf Bhat or Salam Rishi on telephone. NC leadership has reliably claimed to the Centre that the deceased Syed Yousuf had actually engaged a famous voice entertainer from Awantipore, popularly known as 'Actor Aijaz', to mimic Dr Abdullah over telephone. Meanwhile the mimic artiste has recorded a statement before a Magistrate in South Kashmir has claimed that the deceased used to pay him Rs 2,000 for mimicking the voice of Union Minister Farooq Abdullah to win the trust of people who allegedly gave money in return for getting a ministerial portfolio or any other government job. After questioning by Jammu and Kashmir police, Aijaz decided to record the confessional statement during which he said that he had been mimicking many politicians especially Farooq Abdullah allegedly at the insistence of Haji Yusuf. On the other hand son of the deceased, Talib Hussain accused that Aijaz is already known to National Conference top brass for his mimicry who, at the instance of a senior minister of Omar Abdullah led government, recorded a statement on the promise of a hefty amount and government job. "Aijaz has accepted the offer and a statement under his signature was drafted at the residence of the minister" claimed Talib. It merits a mention here that one of the witnesses of Sayed Yousef's alleged custodial death Ab. Salam Reshi disclosed that the deceased, had taken 34 lakh from him which was given to Dr Farooq Abdullah. Reshi had paid the amount on the promise that he would be inducted as the member in the legislative council of the state. Salam Reshi has claimed that Dr. Farooq Abdullah talked to him over phone many a times in presence of Sayed Yusuf. "To nullify the claims of Salam Reshi, NC government has hired actor Aijaz who is reportedly all set to confess that it was actually he (Aijaz) who mimic Dr Abdullah at the instance of deceased" said Talib. When asked to comment on the latest assertions of both government and the family of the deceased Ab. Salam Reshi (eyewitness in the case) termed the statement of Aijaz as baseless. "Why didn't Chief Minister Omar Abdullah contest my assertion two and a half month ago when I demanded return of the amount taken from me by Yusuf on the instructions of Dr. Abdullah" questioned Salam adding that he himself met Dr. Abdullah at his Jammu residence earlier this year before handing over money to the deceased. "This confession can impress some but not me, as I know where the money has actually gone and who returned it back to me" Salam said. In his two-page confessional statement, recorded under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code, Aijaz actor has claimed that Yusuf used to pay him an amount of Rs 2,000 for doing such a mimicry over phone which used to help him in convincing people who had paid him for getting a ministerial berth or nomination to Legislative Council or any other governmental work done. His mimicry act was also recorded by the court which forms a part of the evidence, the sources said, adding that he had been receiving threats from some groups against deposing before the court. Another person, who happens to be an eyewitness in the case, Mohammed Yusuf Bhat of Ganderbal had also recorded his confessional statement before Chief Judicial Magistrate (Ganderbal) Javed Alam. Bhat, a resident of Ganderbal, 30 km from here, was among the three present at the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on September 29 where Haji Yusuf was handed over to Crime Branch after he admitted to have duped him and another person Salam Reshi taking money running into more than Rs one crore against a promise of a ministerial berth or membership in the Legislative Council. In his statement, Bhat, who has kept himself away from the media glare ever since the mysterious death of Haji Yusuf allegedly during police custody, recalled that he had gone to Jammu where he met the deceased. "I had gone to Jammu in February this year where I met Haji Yusuf and he asked me the reason for my visit. I told him that Legislative Council elections are being held and I am also desirous of becoming an MLC," Bhat said in his four-page confessional statement, also recorded under section 164 of CrPC. Bhat claimed that Haji Yusuf told him that he would have to make a payment of around Rs 70 lakh for the same which would be counted as party fund. |
