Teachers’ delegation call on Harsh, demand early redressal of community problems | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 7: A delegation of teachers and lecturers called on Harsh Dev Singh MLA and former Education Minister, apprised him of the various problems and demands of the teaching community and urged upon him to support their cause so that early solution for the same could be ensured. They dwelt upon various issues, concerns and grievances of the teaching community at length and showed their resentment against the govt. for its indifference and apathetic approach. The representatives of various teaching associations expressed their faith in the Former Education Minister and sought his intervention so as to facilitate the early redessal of their grievances. Addressing the delegation, Harsh Dev Singh assured all help for mitigating the problems of teachers and for ensuring them a fair deal. He appreciated the genuine concerns of the teaching community and endorsed their demand pertaining to early regularization of all teaching staff working in in-charge capacities. He said the issue of incharge lectures; I/C ZEOs, I/C CEOs, I/C Principals, I/C HMs besides others for regularization would be vigorously projected and supported not only in the assembly but at all possible forums. He agreed with the deputationsists that largescale adhocism in the Education Deptt. had largely dampened the morals of teaching community which ultimately affected their performance and overall productivity. He flayed the Deptt. for repeated assurances and commitments made with the various teachers associations for early regularization which were neither honoured nor any step taken by the Education Deptt. in this direction. Harsh Dev Singh further assured the deputation for projecting their other demands at appropriate quarters including grant of running grade pattern to lecturers and their placement in Pay Band III. He further supported their demand for review and revision of the remuneration for Board Assignments which had not been enhanced for the last several years. He further expressed dismay over the different scales of pay and different grades being made applicable to Physical Education lecturers in different districts and urged for rectification of the said anomaly. Harsh Dev Singh further demanded immediate filling up the promotional avenues at different levels in the Education Deptt. He said that there were thousands of promotional slots available at the level of teachers, masters, lecturers, HMs, principals, ZEOs etc which were kept unfilled for vested interests and with ulterior motives. He regretted the inordinate delay in the conversion of Education volunteers as RETs in conformity with the policy laid down on the subject. Singh strongly condemned the Deptt. for inexplicable and in-ordiante delay in the appointment of teachers under RET policy. He sought an explanation from deptt. for delays ranging between 18 months to two years in issuing the appointment orders to RET teachers. He said that the issue would be vociferously agitated in the assembly. Assuring all help to the deputationists in ensuring early redressal of their genuine grievances, Harsh Dev Singh urged upon the teachers to work with full dedication and devotion and to serve as true bacon lights so that the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance could be dispelled. He exhorted upon them to work as role models for the younger generation.
