NGO expresses concern over land grabbing & cutting of forests | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kalakote, Nov 7: A voluntary social organization Universal Development-Organization(Regd)has expressed its serious concern over the ongoing cutting of forests, smugg1ing of timber, firewood and grabbing of land on large scale in different villages and forests. It alleged that same is being done in Tehsi1 Ka1akote in Rajouri district by some people with the involvement and negligence of the employees of forest department posted at Rajouri & Ka1akote' President of Universal Development Organization (UDO) L R. Sehga1,Advocate has alleged that since 1997,ti11 date over 30% (thirty percent) forests, green trees and forest land of total forests and forest land has been damaged and grabbed by such people ,having good relations with the Forests Guards of areas concerned. Sehga1 has claimed that near 50% of total forest and land have been cut and captured illegally by these influential people in one area i,e Comptt.No.115-16, fa11ing under Forets Range Ka1akote and in villages Dhanwan,Dha1yote and Bhatera and even the trees of Chir and Shisham have been cut from the closures of the Forest Deptt. i11ega11y and Timber has been smuggled on large scale with the help of employees of Forest department from 1997,til1 date. The president of Universal Development Organization (UDO) has 'also blamed that maximum public ways, water sources and roads have been captured by the land grabbers as a result public has been facing difficu1ty. He urged upon the Govt. of India and Govt. of J&K. to order a CBI probe into 30% loss of forest in Ka1akote besides damage of c1osures,smugg1ing of timber, firewood & cutting of green trees to punish culprits & guilty employees of forest deptt.
