| Northern Command Celebrates Infantry Day | | | Udhampur Nov 7:Infantry Day was celebrated today by troops of the Northern Command. This day was marked by celebrations across the Command Theatre where Sainik Sammelans and Sainik Bhojs were organised for troops deployed even in far flung areas .
In his message to the Infantry, Lt Gen KT Parnaik , GOC-in- C, Northern Command complimented them for their devotion to duty and indomitable spirit while working under trying and difficult conditions, undeterred by the hostile terrain and climate . He said that the nation and the Indian Army was proud of the Infantry and acknowledged their contribution in maintaining the sanctity of the borders and in fighting terrorism in the state.
At the Command Headquarters , a wreath was laid at the War Memorial by the Army Commander to remember those brave infantrymen who had laid down their lives in the service of the nation . It will be pertinent to mention that Northern Command has lost 02 Officers, 02 JCOs and 15 Other Ranks in operations this year. It is also a matter of pride that the highest number of gallantry awards were conferred to the troops of this Command on Independence Day 2011.
Infantrymen are soldiers who are specifically trained for the role of fighting on foot to engage the enemy face to face and have historically borne the brunt of the casualties of combat in wars.
