| Manufacture, Sale of Letrozole drug suspended | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 7:The Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 26 A of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 has issued a Gazette Notification GSR 752(E) dated 12.10.2011 under which the manufacture, sale and distribution of drug Letrozole for induction of ovulation in an ovulatory in fertility has been suspended in the country with immediate effect.
This has been done in public interest as the use of the drug was likely to involve certain risk to human beings whereas safer alternatives of the drug are available. The manufacturers licensed to manufacture the said drug formulation, if any, in the State of Jammu & Kashmir for the said indication are informed through the medium of this press release that their licenses for manufacturing the formulation are suspended with immediate effect.
The Chemists and Druggists are also directed to stop the sale of these formulations with immediate effect and return the un-used stocks to the manufacturers. However, Letrozole formulation for treatment of “Breast Cancer” would continue to be manufactured and marketed in the country.
