Col CK Nayudu U-22 Cricket Tournament | Bandeep slams ton, J&K sets 364-run target for Assam | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 7: Promising middle order batsman Bandeep Singh slammed a fabulous century to help J&K set a challenging target of 364 runs for Assam to chase in the second innings of the 4-day match of the Col CK Nayudu Under-22 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at Guwahati today. In reply, Assam was comfortably placed at 119 for the loss of one wicket at stumps on day-3 today. Now, with last day of the match remaining, Assam still needs 245 runs to win, while J&K on the other hand needs to capture 9 wickets for scripting a victory. So, the match is precariously placed as it can go to either way and even one can not rule out a draw. Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 146/3, J&K lost its skipper Aditya Pratap Singh early in the morning at his individual score of 30 runs. But, Bandeep Singh, the other overnight batsman played sensibly to hit a splendid century and along with Manik Gupta (40) helped J&K to make 295 for all-out, to set a target of 364 runs for Assam including the first innings lead of 68 runs. Assam began the second innings cautiously to end the day at 119/1, needing more 245 runs to win on the 4th and the last day tomorrow. For J&K, speedster Sahil Sharma was the only successful bowler, taking the lone wicket to fell. It may be recalled that three batsmen from J&K including Shubam Khajuria, Owais Shah and now Bandeep Singh have scored centuries in this tournament so far in this season, while medium fast bowler Sahil Sharma, Leg-spinner Manik Gupta and Off-spinner Aamir Mehraj have shone with the ball. The J&K team is being accompanied by Hilal Ahmed as manager, Rohit Malhotra as joint manager, Iqbal as trainer and Ajaz Ahmed as physio.
