India committed another diplomatic blunder on MFN status: Oppn
11/7/2011 11:37:20 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 7: The recent statement of Indian Prime Minister welcoming the Pakistan Government for granting Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India is a greatest diplomatic failure of the Indian Government as two days later Pakistan Prime Minister Yusf Raza Geelani backtracked from the statement.
The political parties opposed to UPA coalition in the country have taken serious exception to the statement made by Dr Manmohan Singh and the Indian Government welcoming the statement and term it a great diplomatic failure. The BJP, Janata Dal, Shiv Sena and other opposition parties including the Left have ridiculed the UPA Government for committing blunder after blunder on diplomatic front.
According to high placed sources the PM stoop so low on the issue that without waiting and seeking a proper feed back from the External Affairs Ministry and other Government agencies without wasting any time welcomed the statement by terming it a good sign in improving the relations between the two countries. Dr Singh spoke in the same manner and fashion in which the opposition PDP in J&K welcomed the Pakistan's gesture, sources added.
Sources said the BJP has taken a serious exception to the statement of Dr Singh saying that PM's statement has caused embarrassment for entire nation. A BJP spokesman while commenting on the statement said it indicates that there is lack of coordination between various Government agencies working on diplomatic front and PMO otherwise such an irresponsible statement should have not been committed by none else than PM himself.
He said it is not for the first time that India committed the diplomatic blunders but previously the External Affairs Minister SM Krishna also read the opening resolution of another country at UN meet recently. This has reflected the amount of inefficiency prevailing in the UPA Government said a senior leader of Shiv Sena.
He said it is not for the first time that such blunders have been committed on diplomatic front but this trend continues for over two decades now. Commenting on Pakistan's announcement and its subsequent denial regarding grant of MFN status to India, the Sena spokesman said that Pak can't be trusted as it has always betrayed India since partition.
He said for last 22 years Pakistan is active in Kashmir sending armed desperados to wage a war against India besides putting its men and machinery into action against anti India campaign still the GoI has showered praises on Pak and tried to improve diplomatic relations with it.
Taking wrong advantage of this gesture of India, the Sena leader said Pakistan always tried to show its teeth to India, justified the terrorism in Kashmir as Jehad and accused India as aggressor in Kashmir. This will continue to happen till India continues to be soft towards Pakistan the brain child of world terrorism, he added.
