Director, J&K attends national WDI meet | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 8: The Jammu based State Director of J&K for the War Decorated India Col Virendra K Sahi, Vir Chakra was invited to attend a special meeting of the executive body and the board of trustees of the War Decorated India (WDI) held at Chandigarh, as member and Director of the J and K Chapter of the WDI. The meeting was attended by 13 Directors from different states besides the President Brig N.S. Sandhu, Maha Vir Chakra Secretary Gen Capt Reet M.P. Singh, Vir Chakra. The meeting was also graced by the Punjab state minister for Defence Services Welfare Balbir Singh Bath. Besides various organizational points the meeting discussed the vital issue of providing financial assistance to the war widows/ parents of the brave martyrs and scholarships to the wards of martyrs needing help. Director J&K was able to get 100 percent approval of the cases projected from the J&K state. The Chief Minister of Punjab Shri Prakash Singh Badal hosted the members of the WDI and was kind to grant a financial aid of 50 lakh towards the corpus of the WDI fund providing financial aid to the war widows of the whole nation. The source of the fund is from similar donations received from all over the country made by various state governments and the corporate sector. However the subscription from J&K government and the J&K based corporate houses has been nil so far; although the war widows of the state are beneficiaries of the WDI. The WDI holds a triennial meet of the war decorated at Chandigarh where the brave veteran warriors are honoured and ‘Vir Naris’ assisted. They assemble from the whole nation and abroad for three days. The next meeting is scheduled in March 2012. The Director J&K requested all the WDI members to attend in large numbers along with their families. Those decorated veteran warriors and Vir Naris who have not joined the WDI must do so at the earliest.
