J&K crushes Delhi to enter semis of T20 tourney | Nitin Mehra bags man of the match award | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 8: Sponsored by Kashyap Sports Club Jammu, the Jammu and Kashmir team thrashed Delhi by 17 runs to enter the semifinals of the All India Shiv Nath Tiwari Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament, organised by Ballia District Cricket Association, under the banner of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association at Sports Stadium, Ballia today. Put into bat, J&K managed to score a fighting total of 132 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing all the wickets in the process. Puneet Kumar and Nitin Mehra played quick-fire innings’ of 44 and 40 runs respectively. Puneet struck three crispy boundaries and four towering sixes in his brick knock, while Nitin hit five delectable fours and a six in his knock. Prabhakar was pick of the bowlers for Delhi, who took 3 wickets, while RK Shukla and Khem Chand Joshi bagged two wickets each and Khem Chand Joshi claimed one. In reply, Delhi was bundled-out for 115 runs in 19.4 overs, thus lost the match by 17 runs. Gourav was the top scorer for Delhi with 44 runs, while Khem Chand Joshi contributed 28 runs. Medium fast bowler Nitin Mehra, who played a gem of an innings earlier was wrecker-in-chief to claim three important wickets, while military medium bowler Satish took two and left-arm spinners Kuldip and Rohit Sharma claimed one wicket each. Nitin Mehra was adjudged man of the match for his fine all-round show. J&K will take on Haryana in its last pool match for an academic interest tomorrow. It is pertinent to mention here that the winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 40000, while the runners-up team will receive Rs 25000 as cash award. Besides these awards, along with trophies and mementoes, cash prizes will be given to every man of the match and the man of the series award. The 13-member J&K team has been sponsored by Kashyap Sports Club, under the supervision of its president, Rajesh Dhar.
