Col C K Nayudu U-22 Cricket Tournament | Manik scalps 5 wkts, J&K thrashes Assam by 123 runs | | Early Times Report Srinagar Nov 8:Ambidextrous cricketer Manik Gupta displayed some extra-ordinary wrist spinning skills and proved to be the wrecker-in-chief for J&K in their convincing win by 123 runs over Assam to earn 5 points by virtue of outright victory at Gwahati today. With this win, Jammu and Kashmir has reached the number three spot behind Haryana and Vidharbha in its pool with a tally of nine points. J&K will now face Chhattisgarh in its 5th match at Jammu on November 12. Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 119/1, Assam lost wickets at regular intervals and were bundled-out for 240 runs while chasing 364 runs, thanks to superb bowling by Manik Gupta, who took five wicket haul. Apart from Manik, Sahil Sharma took 2 wickets while Bandeep Singh and Vishwajeet Singh claimed one wicket each. Earlier, JK had won the toss and decided to bat first on day one of the 4-day match. They were all out for 184 runs. Vishwajeet Singh was top scorer with 53 runs. In reply, Assam was bundled out for 116 runs. Sahail Sharma was pick of the bowlers from J&K, scalping five wickets to reduce Assam to a low total. In second innings, Bandeep Singh hit century to help J&K post 295 for all giving Assam a target of 364 runs to win the match. Bandeep scored 107 runs. While chasing the target, J&K bowled out Assam for 24o runs to win the match by 123 runs. Manik Gupta claimed five wickets for J&K. Earlier, J&K lost its first match against Haryana. In its second encounter, J&K played draw against Goa, J&K team put up brilliant efforts in the third match against Vidharbha to take first innings lead against them. In the fourth match today, J&K scripted a comfortable win against Assam. Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has hailed the team for its brilliant performance in the tour.
