Mughaho maintains lead in Open FIDE Rating Chess tourney

JAMMU, Nov 08: Mughaho Awomi of Nagaland well maintained a sole lead with seven points he earned out of eight rounds play today in the Rs one lakh prize money All India Open FIDE Rating (below 2000) Chess Tournament at Luthra College, here.
He was being closely followed by four others, Yogesh Gautam of Haryana with six, Barun Pal of West-Bengal, Mohd Khaja Abdul Latheef of Andra Pradesh, Mukund G Bhat of Gujarat and Puri Varinder Kumar of Punjab with 5.5 points each.
Other 13 players, including three from J&K, earned five points each at the end of round seven. Since the eighth round completed late this evening, the results, except for that of Mughaho Awomi, could not be disclosed by the chief arbiter.
In the seventh round today, Ajit Singh of J&K lost to Yogesh Gautam of Haryana while other two from the state, Maxim Singh and Rohit Bhardwaj secured wins to make it to the five points tally.

Winner of tourney to receive Rs 20,000

The winner of the ongoing tournament will get a cash prize of Rs 20,000, followed by Rs 15,000 to the first runners-up. In all, top 20 competitors will be sharing Rs one lakh prize money among themselves. While first ten have been placed on higher side, those securing between 11th and 20th place will get Rs 1500 each. There are five other individual prizes for other distinguished achievements.
Since a couple of boys are doing well from hosts Jammu and Kashmir, the organizers pin high hopes on at least two of them to make it to the top 10 list. “Ajit Singh has done well and was placed at No. 5 at the end of round six this morning. Maxim Singh, Pranav Sharma and Rohit Bhardwaj too have four points each in their respective accounts, so we are expecting at least two boys among the first ten at the end of final ninth round tomorrow”, organizing secretary and president of All J&K Chess Association, Atul Gupta said.
