Abdullahs to campaign for ‘Secular’ Congress! | Wooing UP Minorities | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 8: The latest news about Chief Minister and his father remind one of the old Kashmiri adage. "When Lassa's house was burning, he was fighting flames in his neighbor's house." Jammu Kashmir is plagued with a host of problems ranging from rampant corruption to underdevelopment but the Abdullahs intend to campaign for the Congress in forthcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Abdullahs have problems at the personal front as well. If Supreme Court allows the petition filed by Panthers Party founder, Professor Bhim Singh seeking registration of a criminal case against Omar for his alleged involvement in Haji Yusuf's case, Omar may have to quit even before completing three years in office. It may also cost Farooq his ministerial berth in the union cabinet. The deal (campaigning in UP for Congress) has vast political ramifications. The Congress has made it clear that the issue of rotational Chief Ministership was still alive. If it is really alive then Omar will have to quit office before January 12 to make way for a new Congress Chief Minister. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress General Secretary happens to be a close friend of Omar. Helping him in his fight against Mayawati may give him some more time to govern the state. Asking Abdullahs to woo gullible Muslims has exposed tall secular claims of the Congress. How can it accuse the Bharataya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting innocent Hindus? Similarly Misleading Muslims playing the Muslim card has also put a question mark on their `secular' credentials. Both (Congress and Abdullahs) are convinced that Hindus and Muslims are two separate entities. It also conveys that Congress exercises no influence on Muslims. Farooq Abdullah recites bhajans, goes to temples, and applies tilak on his forehead. Omar is seen in Gurdawaras but for Congress they are `Muslims' who can be used for `misleading' the Uttar Pradesh Muslims? What an irony? |
