Gulmarg coldest with -2.3 degrees, fresh snowfall in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 9 : The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was the coldest place in the Kashmir valley, where upper reaches experienced fresh snowfall while plains, including Srinagar, registered rainfall since early this morning, resulting in severe cold. Gulmarg experienced fresh snowfall last night followed by rains. However, upper reaches, including Affarwat, Seven springs and Khilanmarg had snowfall. Three soldiers were buried under a snow avalanche on November 6 when they were removing snow near a foward post in Gulmarg sector. A weather spokesman told UNI that Gulmarg was the coldest in the valley after the minimum temperature dipped to minus 2.3 degrees Celsius this morning.
There was a snowfall during the night on the ski slopes, much to the delight of tourists, now it started raining, a hotel owner said over phone. He said tourists, mostly from West Bengal, were enjoying the snowfall despite serve cold. However, they were provided warm cloths besides shoes by local traders. A report from Baramulla said upper reaches in this and Bandipora and Kupwara districts also experienced fresh snowfall. Reports of snowfall were also received from villages on the Line of Control (LoC) besides border towns of Machil, Keran, Karnah, Neeru and Gurez. Official sources said moderate snowfall was also received at Razdan and Sadhna tops, which connects most of the border areas with the state. The authorities have already stocked essentials, including rice, atta, sugar, kerosene oil, diesel and LPG cylinders for winter months, which majority villages near LoC remained cut off due to snowfall. People in Kupwara and Bandipora alleged frequent power failure.
