Lok-Adalat Jammu settles 37 of total 94 cases

Jammu, Nov 09: Observing National Legal Service Day, a Lok-Adalat held in the District Court Complex under the chairmanship Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal settled 37cases of the total 94 cases taken up by the Adalat. Various district authorities also held Lok Adalats to deliver justice to common man.
The Lok Adalat comprising of two benches took up these cases, official spokesperson said. Spokesperson said that the first bench comprising Jang Bhadur Singh Principal District & Sessions Judge Jammu and Sanjay Dhar Presiding Officer MACT Court dealt with MACT, Bank and Civil cases. This Bench took up 66 cases (40 MACT, 20 Bank, 6 Civil Cases) of which 22 MACT cases, 8 Bank Cases and 2 civil cases were settled. In the MACT cases an amount of Rs 57.30 lacs was awarded as compensation whereas the Bank cases were settled for an amount of Rs 13,36,592/-.
The second bench headed by G K Pandita Additional District Judge Bank cases assisted by Renu Dogra, 2nd Additional Munsiff took up 28 petty criminal nature, NIA and civil cases out of which 5 cases under NIA Act was settled.
Meanwhile District National Legal Services Day was celebrated in the District Court Udhampur today under the chairmanship of B.M. Gupta, Chairman District Legal Service Authority (Pr District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur. The function organized was attended by B.A. Khan (Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur), Shakeel Beig (SSP Udhampur), Vinod Chatterji Koul, (Addl. District Judge, Udhampur), S.S Bali, (Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee/CJM Udhampur), Khem Raj Sharma(District Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur), Amit Sharma(Munsiff, Udhampur), Dr Jagdish Mehra, District Information Officer, Udhampur, Addl Labour Commissioner, Udhampur, Rajesh Gupta, President, Bar Association, Udhampur & people coming from various walks of life. Speakers highlighted the aims and objects of legal services, the concept of the Legal Aid and Lok Adalat.
A Special Lok Adalat was also held after the function in which Nine MACT Cases were taken up out of which four cases were decided by First Bench comprising of B.M. Gupta, Pr. Dist. & Sessions Judge, Udhampur, Vinod Chatterji Koul, Addl Dist. & Sessions Judge, Udhampur and Khem Raj Sharma, Dist. Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur and compensation of Rs. 7, 20,000/- was awarded to the aggrieved persons. Second Bench comprising of S.S.Bali, Sub-Judge, (CJM), Udhampur and Amit Sharma, Munsiff, JMIC, Udhampur has taken up total 31 Civil and Criminal cases. Out of which 20 cases were settled.
