Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 9: An employee of a hotel in Katra was today arrested by police for allegedly murdering his girlfriend and robbing her of Rs 2 lakh she had stolen from home at Rajpur Kohlar, Bari Brahmana, to solemnize marriage with him.
Parveen Singh, son of Onkar Singh of Tamore, Vijaypur, had an affair with Bindoo of Raipur Kohlar, for the past three years.
On November 3 last, Bindoo's father Munshi Ram, lodged a report with Bari Brahmana police station that she went to her sister's house at Janipura on October 31 but did not reach there.
He also stated that an amount of Rs 2 lakh was also missing from his house. Munshi, who retired as a guard in forest department in the recent past, had got the money on attaining superannuation, and kept it in Bindoo's custody.
Acting on his complaint, police rounded up three suspects, including Parveen. When put to sustained questioning, he allegedly confessed to have killed Bindoo.
SSP (Samba) Israr Khan said on October 31, he asked the girl to elope with him and also bring some money with her to fulfil their daily requirements till they got good jobs.
At his instance, she stole Rs 2 lakh from home and then both of them went to Katra where Parveen worked in hotel Arzoo. He, however, took her to Bhargava hotel where they stayed for the night.
At Katra, Parveen was helped by two of his friends who too had been picked up by police to find out if they had their role in the murder, the SSP informed.
In the hotel, Bindoo asked him to marry her, saying no other person would marry her as she was labelled as his girlfriend.
Khan said as Bindoo belonged to another caste, Parveen's parents were opposed to their marriage. When she put pressure on him, he next morning brought her to Dabuj near Jakh in Vijaypur and took her to an abondened government building which earlier housed a nursery.
In this building, he allegedly strangulated her to death. He then dragged the body to the first floor, tied her dupatta around her neck and then hanged her. He then fled the spot along with her purse which contained Rs 2 lakh, a cell phone and cosmetics.
Praveen later threw the girl's cellphone into Tawi river, and hid her purse and cosmetics inside an air-cooler at his residence at Tamore. On his disclosure, a police team led by Bari Brahmana police station SHO, Inspector Arun Jamwal, seized the purse and the cosmetics, besides recovering the amount of Rs 2 lakh.
Police also recovered the Bindoo's decomposed body from the abandoned nursery and removed it to hospital where post-mortem was conducted on it. Later, it was handed over to her family for last rites.
A case under sections 366, 376 and 302 of RPC was registered against the accused at Bari Brahmna police station.
