Imposter records statement against alleged imposter | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 9: An imposter deposes against another alleged imposter. How much is the witness of an imposter worth as admissible evidence in a court of law? The day Aizaz Malik, a youth from Pulwama district stated before a judicial magistrate that the deceased NC worker Haji Yusuf used his 'services' to mimic the voice of NC patron and union minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, questions are being asked about the authenticity of an imposter who accepted he was being paid Rs 2000 every time he imitated Dr. Farooq Abdullah's voice. It is strange that some days before the mimic artiste came forward to record his statement under section 164 of CrPc, State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had told reporters that there was somebody who could mimic the voice of his father. "It is possible somebody who can mimic my father's voice was used," the Chief Minister said on October 8, 2011. What a coincidence that there is a person who can mimic the voice of the NC patron and he voluntarily came forward to record his statement in a court of law. What a change of heart on the part of somebody who willingly aided and corroborated in a criminal act several times for just Rs 2000 and then suddenly realized he must spill the beans. Courts are headed by intelligence judges whose hawk eyes can see through such cheap gimmicks. But the tragedy in the singular investigations of fraud and breach of trust against Haji Yusuf started by the State crime branch is that the accused is already dead. No investigating agency can produce a challan against a dead person. Thus the purpose of continuing investigations in the case registered by the State crime branch against Haji Yusuf is merely to ensure that the fair name of the NC leaders is not blemished because of the general public perception regarding the mysterious death of the NC worker whose duties as a political fixer have not been denied even by his party leaders. He got jobs done and whatever gratification he accepted was paid by people who knew his capacity to move levers in the high places. Whether he gave the huge sums of money received by him to the party bosses or kept them for himself is the only point of debate. Unfortunately, nobody has so far bothered to investigate this crucial angle of the entire drama. |
