New recruitment policy to reduce financial constraints | Would not block job opportunities, says CM | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 9: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today defended the new recruitment rules stating that his government was left with no option other than devising this 'innovative policy' in a situation of financial constraints caused due to the burden of 6th pay commission implementation. The new policy gives half salary to new recruits for the first three years of service. He claimed it would help boost rather than blocking the opportunities among jobless youth in the state. Contending it would boost employment opportunities, the Chief Minister said , "at no point of time, I've been saying that the stipendiary mode of employment is a means to divert the youth to government sector……… What I'm saying is the stipendiary means of employment is a means to recruit more and more youngsters into government jobs," he said. "Let me ask a question to the youth……is it better for them to stay jobless for three-four years or have a job like this?" , Omar said while replying to a query of media with regard to widespread protests. Defending the policy, he stated even those, who work in the private sector, start on a stipend. "I also started on stipend. …….For the first few years, I did not earn a full salary. My starting salary was 3000 rupees a month for one year - stipend…….. then I went to Rs 6000 - stipend", he maintained arguing that if the private sector can start on a stipendiary mode, even the government can consider it. It was a considered decision brought in front of the cabinet with an aim not to reduce but to boost employment. Having said that the matter is now in front of the court, we'll see what the court decides," he said. |
