Sham awards first whistle blower for providing sex determination info | Calls for stepping up vigil on USG clinics | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, November 11- With a view to encourage the whistle blowers to provide inputs against the sex determination in the State, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today handed over a cheque of Rs. 25,000 to first person who not only provided information about this crime but also nabbed the culprit red handed while conducting the sex determination. It is pertinent to mention here that the Minister had recently announced the incentives for those providing information about the sex determination to curb the female feticide in Jammu and Kashmir and today he gave cash prize to SHO, R. S. Pura, Mr. Paramjeet Singh for nabbing Dr. Monika Bhagat red handedly while conducting the sex determination in a private clinic at R. S. Pura recently. The prize was given in presence of senior officers of health department in the Directorate of Health Services, during a review meeting of health department of Jammu division. Appreciating the gesture, Mr. Sham said that a message will go in the public and more people will come forward to provide information about this misdeed. He said every whistle blower will be given cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and his name would be kept secret. He appealed the people to share such information with the competent authority in the Directorate of Health Services to stop this crime, the Minister asserted. Directing the concerned officers to step up their efforts to monitor the activities of all the Ultrasound clinics operating in Jammu division, the Minister said that constant efforts should be made to discourage this practice. He also called for launching a massive awareness campaign against the female feticide to maintain the sex ratio. Expressing satisfaction over the overall performance of the department in Jammu division, Mr. Sham emphasized the need for taking more steps to further improve the healthcare facilities in the rural and far off areas. He directed the Director Health and Chief Medical Officers to pay frequent field visits and monitor the activities on ground, adding that any gap found during the visits should be plugged immediately so that people get best medicare. He also stressed for rationalization of staff as per the work load of health institutions. Those present in the meeting included Director Health, Jammu, Dr. Madhu Khullar, Director Family Welfare, Dr. T.K. Moza, Project Director, AIDS Control Society, Dr. Rakesh Khajuria, all CMOs, Medical Superintendents and other officers of different wings of the department.
