Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 11: In a scenario filled with political bickering coming almost in a row, Union Health Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's statement in favour of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has come another shock for loyalists of PCC camp . Azad's stance has come in quick succession to the controversial stance lately adopted by cabinet minister Taj Mohiudin in favour of NC and Omar in particular, something which has further created wedge and widened gaps within the party. Not to sit hands down, the loyalists of Soz group are planning to call on high command and convey their 'concern' over what they look as supporting NC and Omar directly instead of Congress and its leadership despite being part of the party.
A senior party leader close to PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz said that it did not befit Azad to take a stand on the lifting of AFSPA from some areas totally opposite to what Soz had taken on the issue. He said even without naming Soz Azad had criticized the PCC Chief while trying to support Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Another Soz loyalist said that Taj Mohiuddin too had tried to belittle the importance of the PCC Chief when he (Taj) said that he had been informed by Omar on AFSPA issue. The Congress leader added that consulting the Congress on important policy decisions did not mean telling Taj Mohiuddin about it. "Omar should take the Congress ministers and the PCC Chief into confidence, he underlined.
However, this is being seen by the observers only a war of nerves under which some leaders not wishing things to come under control and command of Prof Soz, are resorting to tactics by dint of which they are only trying to show he (Soz) has less importance. Other congress leaders apprehended that the row over AFSPA has already widened the rift between the two factions of the Congress. One Congress minister said if the party high command fails to intervene the NC leadership would take the benefit of the divided house of Congress.
Further he indicated that a group of senior Congress leaders loyal to Soz plan to meet senior party leaders in Delhi and persuade them to intervene so that the state unit of the Congress does not fall to the machinations or intrigues of Omar Abdullah and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Referring to recent stand of Azad on AFSPA, Congress leader said that Azad is supporting Omar simply to create a situation in which Congress could get no opportunity for alliance with the PDP. Asked the reason for Azad to support Omar he said that Azad had not forgotten Mufti for withdrawing support to the Government that he (Azad) headed forcing Azad to resign.
