| ‘Proposal for stipend to sarpanches sent to Finance Deptt’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTY
Srinagar, Nov 12 (KNS): Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar Saturday said that a proposal has been sent to the Finance Department for approval regarding payment of stipend to the panches and sarpanches.
“We have submitted a proposal to Finance Department for payment of stipend to them. We are studying modalities in other states and on the same pattern we want to pay the panches and sarpanches in J&K,” Sagar told KNS.
He asked the government officials to take panchyats into confidence in execution of public works. “Serious action would be taken against those officials who will not take them into confidence,” Sagar added.
Without naming PDP he said, “They first used to say panchyat elections won’t happen. Then they said panchyats won’t be empowered and when all this proved wrong now they claim all the sarpanches and panches are from their party.”
“But we are committed for non-party alliance of the panchyats and want to change the system in the state through Panchyati Raj,” he told KNS.
