World Diabetes day observed | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, November 12: On the eve of World Diabetes Day, Diabetes awareness was held at which Dr Jitendra Singh, renowned Diabetologist, National Professor and author, was the chief guest. The programme was organized by Pir Panchal, an NGO, under the supervision of its president Ramesh Hangloo at Muthi Camp. The highlight of the programme was a public lecture on Diabetes by Dr Jitendra Singh and provision of free blood testing, free medicine and free medical consultation by a team of doctors. In his address, Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the efforts of Pir Panchal and the displaced Kashmiri Pandit Community for arranging such awareness programmes. He said that in the next one decade, the two main challenges will be diabetes in young and diabetes in pregnant women. During an exclusive interaction with High School children and adolescents, he emphasized the importance of educating children about the disease so that they could keep themselves away from obesity, sedentary life style and mental stress, which are the risk factors for rapid spread of diabetes in young age. He said these youngsters could in turn also educate their parents and elders. Dr Jitendra Singh said that even in Jammu and surrounding areas, the overall prevalence of diabetes is around 15% and central obesity about 62 to 63 %. Earlier, Ramesh Hangloo presented a resume of various social and awareness activities under taken by Pir Panchal in the last several years. Dr A K Razdan , Principal of Government Higher Secondary School (Migrants), Muthi, profusely appreciated the untiring efforts of Dr Jitendra Singh for the service of diabetes affected people and particularly displaced Kashmiri Pandit Community for the last more than 20 years.
