Stolen resin worth Rs 5 lakh recovered, one arrested

UDHAMPUR, Nov 12:Udhampur Police recovered 420 tins of resin of J&K State Forest Department worth Rs 5 Lac which was illegally smuggled and sold to a Pathankot (Punjab) based firm by some local smugglers of Udhampur and thereby incurring a big loss to state exchequer.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, said that, based on a complaint regarding theft of resin of J&K State Forest Department by some anti-social elements from Battal-Ballian area of Udhampur, a Police team from Police Station Udhampur was deputed to apprehend the resin smugglers.
He added that police team conducted raids and successfully arrested one resin smuggler namely Govind Ram son of Krishan Lal resident of Paldai, Tehsil Majalta from Narote Jaimal Singh, District Pathankot and recovered 420 tins of resin from his possession .
He added that police also seized truck bearing Registration No. JK14-9647, used in the smuggling of Resin and booked accused under section 379/RPC, 6 J&K Forest Act and is also investigating the possible connivance of some more accused persons in this resin theft racket.
Meanwhile, Police arrested 2 persons for selling illicit liquor in Kultyar Bala areas of Panchari.
Reports said that acting on the a complaint of local inhabitants of the Kultyar Bala area of Pancheri, a Police Party of Police Station Pancheri, Udhampur, rushed to the spot and arrested two accused persons namely Rashpaul Singh son of Rattan Singh resident of Kultyar Bala, Pancheri and Kuldeep Singh son of Om Parkash resident of Bilawar, with the assistance of local inhabitants of the area and recovered 24 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession.
One of the accused was working in a local Bar of Pancheri area, who had illegally procured this liquor from Bar for black marketing in Kultyar Bala area of Pancheri. In this regard, a Case under section 48/49 Excise Act stands registered at Police Station Pancheri.
