Poonch, Nov 12: Irked over the non fulfillment of the assurances about decentralizing powers to Panchyats, the newly elected Panchayats of Jammu Kashmir have waged a battle against government accusing the state government for deceiving them and not fulfilled the promises made with them.
Threatening to launch a state wide agitation if due powers were not delegated to the Panchayets at par with other states of the country, the newly elected representatives to Panchyats today staged a protest march in Poonch here today.
Reports from the district said that about fifty Surpanches hailing to Bafliaz and Surankote Blocks assembled near Fawaara (Fountain) Park Poonch this Morning and then marched towards Office of the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, raising anti government slogans and in favour of complete Pancahayeti Raj.
Amidist the sloganeering the protest march culminated outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Poonch where Surpanches staged a protest demonstration in support of their demands. The protest continued for an hour during which the speakers alleged that state government led by Omar Abdullah has deceived them in the name of powers and nothing has been delegated to them.
Demanding the immediate implementation of 73rd Amendment in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the elected Panchayet leaders said, "if their demands are not conceded they would start a statewide agitation.
Addressing to the protesting Surpanches , journalist turned Surpanch, Shafiq Mir said that Omar Abdullah government has deceived them in the name of powers delegated to the Panchayets.
