Expect more fireworks from Mustafa
11/14/2011 12:04:47 AM
Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, brother of Dr Farooq Abdullah and uncle of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has lost the non-lucrative post of Additional General secretary and the Chief Spokesman, which he held for less than a month, because of his fulminations against the Army, Delhi and Rahul Gandhi. Despite having lost the party post he has not stopped being a news maker. That Mustafa has the capacity, rather talent, for striking against the mighty even after having lost the party post became evident when he,in his latest statement, accused New Delhi of running the show in Jammu and Kashmir. He made it clear that the show run by New Delhi was being run through its agents. He has not named the agents but has referred to the the role being played by Congress leaders, especially the PCC Chief, Saifuddin Soz. Even if Mustafa was given the benefit of doubt still one would like to ask him if National Conference leadership could also be be held guilty of acting as an agent of New Delhi for running the show ?He may not have the face to deny it because National Conference shares power with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. Mathematically if the Congress in the state is New Delhi agent for running its show then NC is equally a shareholder in this political game. It is part of their political culture that the NC leaders talk of Delhi running the show in Jammu and Kashmir through it agents only when they lose power or have threats of losing it.When Sheikh Abdullah lost power in 1977 after Congress withdrew its support to the Government headed by him the Lion Of Kashmir started terming the Congress as "worms of a gutter".He went to the extent of describing withdrawal of the support by the Congress as "a stab in the back."During the 22 years of his political wilderness he would usually talk of the state Congress leaders being agents of New Delhi. He even dubbed his successor, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed,as Delhi's agent in Kashmir. It is mere irony of fate that the same Sheikh entered into an agreement with Indira Gandhi, known as Sheikh-Indira Accord, in 1974-75 enabling him to regain power after 22 years.Between 1975 and 1982 it used to be a love-hate relationship between Delhi and the Sheikh.
If the National Conference has been enjoyig power since 2008 its is the result of support it received for the Government making from the Congress.Whatever one may say about the reasons that motivated Mustafa to berate the Army for engineering four grenade explosions in Srinagar one is certain that after having been installed as additional general secretary and Chief spokesman of the party Mustafa had either been trying to give vent to his frustration on having been sidelined for cabinet berth or he had clear instructions from the NC leadership to rake up highly sensitive issues.Had it not been the case he should not have launched a direct attack on the PCC Chief, Saifud Din Soz,calling him as Delhi's agent. Had he not the tacit support from the party leadership he would have been removd from the party posts the day he accused the Army of engineering grenade blasts for delaying AFSPA withdrawal. He would have been told to behave the moment he started blaming the Congress leaders for the mess in Jammu and Kashmir. The NC leadership thought that Mustafa's sermons could help the party in regaining the ground that it had lost to the PDP.And the NC leadership lost no time in sacking Mustafa when it felt threatend and scared of losing power by the utterances of Mustafa against the centre especially against AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi who has been instrumental in pr eventing Omar from losing power last year.Hence one should be ready for more fireworks from Mustafa who may be wishing for NC-Congrss tie to collapse.
