| Pathania calls for arresting sky-rocketing prices of seeds and fertilisers | | |

Jammu: - While addressing farmers at a farmers’ meet at Majalta, R S Pathania prominent lawyer and senior youth Congress leader, has called on the government to control and rather regulate and lower the sky-rocketing prices of fertilizers and seeds. Already spiraling prices and repeated crop failures have broken the back of poor farmers. They are not able to buy the wheat seed and fertilizers for the incoming sowing season on account of whopping increase in their purchase prices.
Pathania further said that there is a large difference between the procurement price for wheat and that of its seed available with the stores of Agriculture Deptt.
This has disappointed and disenchanted farmers’ class in the entire state. And given the adverse climate conditions and the lukewarm focus of government towards promoting agriculture, rural youth are not pursuing agriculture as a vocation.
And if the trend is not curbed in near future, a severe crisis shall unfold. He further called for launching of immediate reforms and rejuvenating steps in the direction by the government and training of rural youth in cooperative farming, proper pricing and marketing of agricultural products so that a boost to agriculture is accorded in the entire State. He further called for boosting horticulture, floriculture, sericulture, pisciculture, apiculture and micro-projects for rural youth so that rural economies are also given a fillip.
