Channi Himmat residents flay delay in roads construction
11/14/2011 12:17:38 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 13: A meeting of Channi Himmat Residents Association was held under the chairmanship of its president advocate V.K.Grover in which the members expressed anguish over the discriminatory construction and repairs of roads, inner lanes & drains initiated by the authorities a few months back.
They also expressed displeasure over unreasonable delay caused by the authorities of the Public Works Department who have dumped and displayed lots of road construction materials since start of June this year but practically negligible work having been executed by the Agency even after lapse of more than six months.
Piles and heaps of such materials have started giving very ugly look to the colony apart from posing extensive threat to the life and property of the residents.
These members desired to inform the higher ups in the administration that during rainy season, at the very start of which the materials were dumped on roads, most of the said materials were washed away not only once but at least four times.
If this was the loss of state exchequer one fails to understand as to whose account this loss has been attributed to.
Every one including the residents, politicians, top bureaucrats and the executers of the construction work have witnessed washing away of the materials which caused wide ditches, pitches and trenches caused by rains as the same occurred not on the inner lanes but also on the main 60’ wide roads of the colony.
This led to many accidents in the locality causing grievous injuries to some passers-by and extensive damage to the vehicles plied on the roads.
The planning and executing agencies have perhaps ignored most vital and strategic topographic conditions of the colony while drafting the roads construction plan by removing of safe clearance zones in front of the houses in shape of berms and black-topping from one end to the other on the main roads.
There is reasonable apprehension of accidents as the steep elevation and sloppy roads on which even little negligence by the drivers are bound to cause frequent accidents resulting into irreparable loss and damage to life and property of the residents living on the main roads.
This association makes a fervent appeal to the authorities to wake up from their deep slumber and ensure early completion of projects and also make mends in their plans keeping in mind the safety of residents of the colony.
The Chief Minister who holds the portfolio of PWD and Dy CM holding portfolio of Housing & Urban Development Deptt. and Raman Bhalla, Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation are also impressed upon for their kind intervention in the matter
