| Jammu becomes champion of U-19 Cricket | | Paras bags man of the match, man of the series awards | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 14: District Jammu boys drubbed district Udhampur by 8 wickets in the final to clinch the Divisional Level Inter-District Cricket Trophy, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Jammu University grounds, here.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Udhampur district bundled-out for a paltry total of 109 runs in 24.2 overs in a 25 over game. Shubam Kapur (28), Sanjeet Kotwal (18) and Rakesh (19) were the main contributors. Soumya Jain, Rajan Mehra and Gurdeep Singh claimed 2 wickets each for Jammu.
In reply, Jammu district, powered by a splendid batting display by Paras Sharma, who made unbeaten 54 runs in 51 balls, studded with seven crisp boundaries, chased the target easily in 14.2 overs, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Abhinav Puri also contributed unbeaten 21 runs to the total. Sajad and Sanjeet took one wicket each for Udhampur. Promising right-handed batsman Paras Sharma was adjudged man of the match for his fabulous knock. He also received man of the series award for his consistent performance.
The match was officiated by Jagtar Singh and Madan Mohan as umpires while Sanjay Raina was the scorer. Pankaj Sasan was coach of Jammu team.
Director Youth Services and Sports, JP Singh and Director Sports and Physical Education, Dhian Singh Bhau were chief guests on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were SS Bali, Deputy Director YS& Sports, Dr Brij Baloria, Ramesh Sharma, PD Singh, Rajesh Dhar, Jeet Singh, Sarita Pandha, Ajay Raina, Anju Gupta, BK Tickoo and Satpal Singh.
